Were you hungry? /夜道でタヌキとばったり！！

Last week, when I was going home,
I saw something coming towards me.
It wasn't a dog or cat.
It had short & tough glossy hair by the moon light,
it's body was fat, it's legs were short,
passing by me without a pause!

" Who are you??" --I wondered!!
A new variety of mystical animal??

Yesterday, I had a chance to watch a TV program about this subject
" Recentry there are a lot of Asian raccoons in the Tokyo area. "

According to the report,
" They useally have large litters, are omnivorous,
can live almost anywhere
and have been increasing in Tokyo"

Where I live there are a lot of big trees and open field of tall grass.
perhaps a strange and magical forrest----of wonder??

Were you looking for a meal for your children??
Were you hungry--perhaps??
it seems like a nice fairy tale.

まさかと思うでしょうが、アレはタヌキだったのです。

先週半ば、仕事を終えて夜道をトボトボ、家の近くまで来たときに、
犬とはいえず、猫ともいえない動物が向こうからやって来ました。
短くて堅そうな毛が月明かりにキラキラ光って、
頭からお尻までコロッと太く、その割に足が細くて短いようです。
なんだ、こりゃあ！！、と目をしばたいているうちに
体を左右に振って小走りにわたしの脇を通り過ぎて行きました。

” 歩くつちのこだーっ！！”
おそまつな判断ですが、これ以上はわからん。
びっくりしたのが適当だったかどうか、
自信がないまま、家に入りました。

そして昨日、久々にTVをみていたら「ダーウインのなんとか」という番組で
「都内にタヌキが出没」とやっていたので「ああ、あれはタヌキだったんだ」と納得しました。

その番組によると、タヌキは元々都内に昔から住んでいた動物で、
「雑食、子沢山、状況によってすみかを替える」というたくましい性質のため
今や都内のほぼ全域に棲息し、少なくとも１０００匹はいるらしい。
番組では世田谷線、豪徳寺あたりのタヌキ一家（ナント、子供が９匹！）を紹介していたのですが、
わたしの住むこのあたりも樹木が多いから、うろついていても不思議ではないのですね。
エサを探していたのでしょうか。
何かごちそうがみつかったのかな？？
